I’d like to think that everyone has their very own superpower. I truly believe that because we are unique in our own way, there are things that only we can do to make an impact on the world. You may have a special talent, passion or even skill that has yet to be discovered or you are actually fulfilling your passion but have not maximized its full potential.
For me, my superpower was unlocked by being laid off. Imagine that? Well, you see, I built a career working behind the scenes for some of the biggest brands in the world. But no matter how far I climbed, I was still the only Black woman in the room. The one with all the answers quietly sitting in the back. I started shrinking and second guessing myself – until the day I got laid off. That moment was meant to break me but it didn’t. Instead, it unlocked me!
As I leaned into my work, something extraordinary happened. A new persona began to emerge – a super-shero – one that fully embraced both my tech expertise and my creative fire. “Techno Queen” was born!
Who is She?
- A visionary leader on a mission to drive innovation in tech.
- A digital superhero helping businesses transform, automate, and scale.
- A bold, brilliant force redefining what it means to be a Black woman in tech.
She’s not separate from me—she IS me. She’s the unapologetic version of the woman who once second-guessed her place at the table. And now, I am using THAT superpower in my business MECCA Marketing Group to make engaging and creative content always for our clients.
So, ask yourself today, “What is my superpower and how can I monetize or maximize my potential?”
Here are a few ways you can enhance your brand, talent or skill.
Create Relevant Content
- Blogging or content creation: Share your knowledge and expertise on a platform like WordPress.
- Online courses: Develop and sell courses on platforms like Teachable or Udemy.
- Podcasts: Create and share your podcast with an audience.
- YouTube channel: Create videos and share your passion with a wider audience.
Build Your Online Presence:
- Create a website or blog: Showcase your work and build a strong online presence.
- Utilize social media: Share your creations, engage with your audience, and promote your products or services.
- Build a network: Connect with other professionals and enthusiasts in your field.
Promote Your Products or Services:
- Optimize your website and social media profiles: Use relevant keywords and images to attract customers.
- Run targeted advertising campaigns: Reach your ideal customers through social media or Google ads.
- Collaborate with other businesses or influencers: Expand your reach and audience through partnership
I’d love to hear how you’ve unlocked and monetized your inner superpower, too. Send me an email a lab@meccamarketinggroup.com.
Be Well,
Lenora

PREVENTING BOSS
BURNOUT
May is Mental Health Awareness month. In recognition of this important topic, I’d wanted to share a few tips on preventing or reducing what I’d like to refer to as “Boss Burnout.” Are you burning the candle at both ends in your business? We can all agree that you have to invest in your business in order to succeed. However, there are a few ways to maximize your efforts in order to maintain a healthy balance in life, so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Here are a few tips from my personal experiences:
1. AUTOMATE TO RELATE.
Try to find ways in which you can use automation to streamline some of your business services or even daily management tasks. For example, schedule or automate your customer reminders in a customer relationship management system (CRM). You can even automate scheduling your social media posts. Give yourself back some time by using systems for routine tasks. This effort can give you time to foster relationships. The thirty minutes that you used on emailing customers one at a time or wasted searching for a customer record, you can now have coffee with a friend or attend your child’s parent-teacher conference.
2. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK.
Make an appointment with yourself and keep it. Remember, you are your most important client and that means sometimes stepping away for a minute or two to recalibrate. Some examples might include: taking 15 mins to meditate or listening to your favorite music. Start small and work your way up to a full-week vacation.
3. SEEK HELP WHEN YOU’RE OVERWHELMED.
Outsourcing or contracting projects can ease a heavy load during peak season or when you’re understaffed. Try out short-term employment agencies or online creative services like Upwork or Fievrr to help when you in a pinch. And, don’t forget about seeking help when you are mentally overwhelmed. Talking to a licensed mental health therapist, or even a close friend can also help you see things clearly.
